Marriage Coaching - What is it? |

Donn and Joy Moehlenpah call themselves “Marriage Coaches”. As marriage coaches they come along side married couples who may be experiencing less than God’s best in their marriage relationship, but still care for each other deeply, and help them to get their relationship back on track. Frequently an experienced marriage coach can help a couple see through their “blind spots” and identify “fatal flaws” which they can’t see themselves. As an athletic coach seeks to bring out the best in his players, so also the marriage coach seeks to bring out the best of God’s intentions in a couple when He brought them together in the first place. Rather than “telling” couples what they ought to do, the marriage coach seeks to guide a couple to find the answers to their own differences and issues as a non-judgmental, third party. This process is begun through the use of marital assessment tools, asking pertinent questions, careful listening, insight, and sharing Biblical principles and scripture which are applicable. The marriage coach gets the parties involved in expressing their feelings to each other in an open, honest and safe manner. Not to be overlooked is the importance of the couple learning to pray with and for each other. The coach guides the discussion at all times so that it becomes an objective and constructive exercise for both parties. The goal is that as this process continues, the parties involved will find solutions to their own shortcomings and be able to once again grow as a couple.
