WHY PRE-MARRIAGE PREPARATION?
Don’t get married without it ! “Marriage preparation, who needs that?”, you may ask. Our answer is, “Everyone planning to get married!” Today the average marriage lasts a little over 7 years, according to Kevin Lehman, noted family therapist. One out of every two marriages will probably end in divorce. This is not a very pretty picture for the prospective bride and groom. Most young couples doubt that they would ever wind up in the divorce court because “they are in love”. But so called “love” can be very deceiving and can quickly grow “cold” when faced with the realities of life. If “love” is only an emotion it will ebb and flow with time and disappear altogether if proper steps are not taken to preserve this relationship. Divorced people, though they have had previous marriage experience, are often in greater need of pre-marriage preparation than “first timers”, as they frequently carry the same issues they had in the first marriage into the second marriage without recognizing it. Blending children from a previous marriage into a new union further complicates the situation. These marriages have even a higher failure rate.
